Spectrolite is a member of the feldspar labradorite stone family, but for its colouring it has very little to do with labradorite that is grey-blue. Spectrolite was entitled a gem name of its own because of the rainbow rich variety and depth of colours it displays.
The Finnish "Stone of Light" was given the name Spectrolite by Professor Aarne Laitakari, who through the name wanted to convey the colours of the Finnish Nature of various seasons. The intense colours range from blues and greens to yellows and oranges. Some rare specimens display all these colours simultaneously. Most valuable, rarest and hardest-to-get-hold-of spectrolite includes shades of red: magenta, purple, violet and the red colour itself. It is almost impossible to get hold of black and white spectrolite.
Spectrolite is the only Finnish gem stone that has a quality rating system. According to it, spectrolite is divided into four classes: A+/A, B, C and D. Spectrolite is suitable for a number of uses (sculpting, tiles, mosaic, decoration items), but especially suitable it is for personal jewelry because no two gems will ever be exactly the same - every stone is individual.

When a spectrolite is used for meditation or healing, it is advisable to lightly smear the stone with neutral vegetable oil, such as sunflower oil, to allow the colour frequencies shine freely. Avoid oils with strong flavour, colour or texture, as they may contain particles that can be harmful for the stone in time. Periodically, rinse a healing stone with cool water to keep its flow of light free.
Red spectrolite and Fantasy spectrolite
Spectrolite including variations of red (magenta, pink, purple, violet and red itself) is the rarest form of spectrolite and available irregularly. Red spectrolite is at its best in jewellery but can be also used as a very personal meditation or healing stone.
If the harvested material from the spectrolite mines does not include red spectrolite, it cannot be made available either. Availability of red spectrolite is even more challenging in winter time, when the mines in Finland are covered by snow and the cold temperatures hinder the use of hydraulic mining equipment that freeze at -20 degrees Celcius. In challenging winters, mining is not at all possible.
Fantasy spectrolite displays imaginative and rare colouring suitable for meditation as well as for jewellery. Often a fantasy stone also includes small areas of shades of red. Fantasy spectrolite is presented in a category of its own to help the seekers of dancing colours find these special stones among all spectrolite.
Spectrolite

When a blue - or blue-green - spectrolite is placed under the pillow (wrapped in a scarf or pillow case to avoid possible abrasion), it will in time make you fall asleep effortlessly and sleep deep. It is important to place the stone close to your head that controls your sleeping activities. To re-create a new sleeping pattern sometimes takes some time - and sometimes it works almost instantly - but trust the power of spectrolite. Deep, restful sleep will become reality very soon once you start using your "sleeping stone". If you are a good sleeper, it might be advisable to move a natural, high-vibrating spectrolite slab one or two meters away from you when going to sleep, unless you want to sleep around the clock.

Note! Do not use ultrasonic cleaning for spectrolite because of its lamelled structure, and avoid cleansing of spectrolite in salt. Spectrolite is best cleaned with a soft brust under running water, or you can leave it soak in ample water overnight - just like nature would do.
